After spending months unable to use her powers, Brynn Warren is once again using her gift and working at her family's bed-and-breakfast. After all, the coroner ruled his death natural causes, and Mort did have health problems in life. But with Cookie putting up a For Sale sign for the shop already, Brynn knows she can't just let it go.
Trying to solve a might-be murder while attempting to stop her aunt from meddling in her personal life seems like a recipe for disaster. If Brynn wants to bring Mort's spirit peace, she'll have to rely on all her skills—both magical and mundane—to uncover the truth.

Cassidy Brown returns to narrate the second installment (after In the Company of Witches) of the "Evenfall Witches B&B" mysteries. Months after she regains her magic, including her ability to see and speak to the dead, Brynn Warren finds herself wrapped up in another murder mystery. Candymaker Mortimer Sweete insists he's been murdered. Brynn hopes to bring peace to his soul by solving his murder. With the help from her aunts and reclusive uncle, Brynn investigates Mort's death, discovering secrets along the way. With her superb vocal skills, Brown's performance brings the characters to life, imbuing their voices with their personalities--quirks and all--and she ably adjusts the pacing to fit the tempo of each scene. In doing so, she keeps the story moving forward and, as the need arises, adds a slight sense of urgency to Mort's spectral situation. Capturing the story's essence with her clear, expressive tones, Brown further entertains audiences. VERDICT Fans of the first novel in the series will enjoy Brown's delightful performance and look forward to the series' next installment.--Amanda L. S. Murphy
