When Jimmy Hubbard, the manager of the local cinema, is murdered in a robbery gone wrong, the residents of Plum Harbor are mystified. Everyone liked Jimmy, and the struggling theater seems an unlikely target for burglars.
The Black Sheep Knitters are surprised and saddened by the crime, but are more suspicious of psychic-medium Isabel Waters, who has recently set up shop in town. Isabel has hoodwinked one of their friends into shelling out big money every week to keep the memory of a lost loved one alive. Determined to reveal Isabel as a fraud, the knitters are pulled in the web of Isabel's world and find themselves in a tangle of secrets and lies. They must solve two murders before the truth about all of Isabel's clients—past and present—are revealed.
As in her previous books A Dark and Stormy Knit, The Silence of the Llamas, and Knit, Purl, Die—which Publishers Weekly praised for its "fast-paced plot that will keep even non-knitters turning the pages"—Canadeo brings her trademark style to this entertaining mystery that will psych you out and leave you wanting more.

The murder of the owner of the Plum Harbor, Mass., movie theater, Jimmy Hubbard, in an apparent robbery kicks off Canadeo’s enchanting eighth knitting mystery (after The Postman Always Purls Twice). Maggie Messina, who anchors the knitting group that gathers at her store, the Black Sheep Knitting Shop, has cut down on her amateur sleuthing to please her detective boyfriend, Lucy Binger; since then, a younger member of the group, who wants her live-in boyfriend to propose marriage, does much of the investigating. Meanwhile, the arrival in Plum Harbor of a psychic, Cassandra Waters, who has brought considerable comfort to the bereaved niece of one of the group’s friends, distracts from Jimmy’s death. A second murder raises the stakes, though as usual the crime solving is secondary to the warm interactions among the Black Sheep knitters. A pair of recipes rounds out this sweet cozy. The eighth in the Black Sheep knitting series finds shop owner Maggie Messina and her pals shocked and puzzled when the unassuming manager of a theater down the street is murdered. But their attention soon turns to a new psychic in town and the way she seems to be scamming one of the group's friends. Once again, this cozy series proves delightful with a few well-turned twists and a group of increasingly well-defined characters. Though there's more sleuthing than knitting, the use of unusual characters like the enigmatic psychic make this a fun read for all cozy fans.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
