Kekoa Young, the Hawaiian hunk who was introduced in the first book in Walters' SNAP (Strategic Neutralization and Protection Agency) Agency series, Lights Out (2021), falls hard for brainiac scientist Elinor Mitchell. Unbeknownst to Elinor, her beloved grandfather was one of the Los Alamos Five, and after she posts a line of code from his secret notebooks to an online forum in an effort to decode it, she becomes a target in a sinister plot. Kekoa, a member of SNAP and a former navy cryptologist, was assigned to keep an eye on her after it was discovered that her computer is being used to pass along defense designs to Russia. The various agencies suspect Elinor, but Kekoa is determined to prove her innocence. Kekoa and Elinor's witty banter keeps the action moving as Walters' ramps up the tension. Characters are multidimensional--Kekoa's family estrangement is counterbalanced by Elinor's feelings of abandonment--while both have trust issues that they will have to work hard to overcome. Readers who enjoy a slow-building blend of faith elements, romantic suspense, and history will find much to love here.COPYRIGHT(2022) Booklist, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
